ZeroByZawadi is an African yoga-inspired social enterprise. It is an expression of Zawadi Nyong’o – the founder, who is committed to bringing her creativity, feminism, spirituality and passion for social justice together. Zawadi believes that at zero, anything and everything is possible.

Indeed the inspiration for ZeroByZawadi came at a time when Zawadi had just returned from a month of Ayurveda treatment and yoga in Kerala, India and felt that she needed to start over. Zawadi had no idea what she would do, but kept hearing the voice of her mentor Hope Chigudu who had been encouraging her to explore her creativity. Then voila! As she was meditating one morning, the idea to make a khanga yoga bag popped into her head. The ZeroByZawadi journey therefore begun at the end of November 2011 and is finally taking shape.

Zawadi is Kiswahili for “gift”, so through ZeroByZawadi, Zawadi says she hopes to create products, spaces, and services that are indeed precious gifts to all who might share this journey. Zawadi believes that “every gift has a story” so she set up her blog www.zerobyzawadi.com primarily to share stories of inspiration and transformation.

Zawadi envisions sharing this ZeroByZawadi journey with individuals and organizations that have a similar vision of the world – one where each of us recognizes that we have a role to play in creating the world we wish to see – whether it is through art, music, spirituality, movement, or any other form of creative self-expression.ZeroByZawadi hopes to use its products and services to contribute towards Africa’s and Africans’ transformation and full self-expression.
